With only a small population of 1000 permanent residents, Rainbow Beach offers many tourist attractions including hand gliding, caravan parks, motels, resorts, 4wd hire, yacht charters, Fraser Island tours, camping areas and much more.
Rainbow Beach is a vibrant town and gets its name from the many different coloured sands found on the beaches and sand dunes. Popular with four wheel drive enthusiasts as well as backpackers the town is easily accessible and is located just 75km from the Bruce Highway town of Gympie.
The town also boasts a variety of restaurants from seafood to bistros and there is now an abundance of motels, hotels and backpackers accommodation to choose from.
Located only 10 minutes by barge from Rainbow Beach is the largest sand island in the world called ‘Fraser Island’. The island has a sub tropical climate and attractions include whale watching, freshwater lakes, rain forest walks and an abundance of wildlife. Tours to the island can easily be taken from Rainbow Beach.
